The Company

Our client is a prominent transportation company with a growing presence in Australia. Their core activity is to operate and maintain urban and interurban transport networks. With over 24,000 employees in 15 countries through over 110 subsidiaries and the backing of a global leader in public transportation, they provide performance, dynamism, and reliability to customers and passengers on their networks. They have established themselves as a leader in the industry, providing reliable and efficient transport solutions to communities across the globe.

The Role 

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will play a vital part in developing and implementing HR across the company operations in Australia. This is a generalist role that will require you to support the delivery of the national business plan by focusing on HR operations, team member performance, talent management, organisational effectiveness and culture. You will work across all levels of the organisation and serve as a trusted partner to managers and leaders by providing expert guidance regarding all aspects of HR. 


Currently involved in an exciting metro rail infrastructure project in Greater Western Sydney under the largest Public Private Partnership in NSW, our client will be responsible for the successful delivery of the operations and maintenance elements of the project. Additionally, they are actively bidding on additional projects in NSW and Victoria and thus looking now to appoint their Director of People & Culture to support their Australian growth journey.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading HR support to drive national business growth and maintain the company's culture.

• Own the people operations roadmap and strategy whilst ensuring alignment with the business, APAC and HQ strategies.

• Providing expert guidance to managers and leaders on HR matters, including employee relations and union dialogue.

•  Cultivating strong relationships within the organization and develop DEI initiatives.

• Managing HR projects, including M&A integration and employee relations.

• Enhancing HR policies, addressing employee concerns, and tracking HR metrics.

• Develop and report on key HR metrics to enable the continuous improvement of people management activities, including employee engagement, retention and performance.

• Coordinating HR activities with third-party providers.

• Prepare documents, letters and other communications as required related to the HR policies, procedures and processes.

• Supporting Talent Acquisition efforts

About You 

You will be a dynamic and innovative HR leader, comfortable working a fast-paced, growth environment, ideally as part of a regional team in a large multi-national. You will have experience covering all HR related activities and have strong understanding of the labour laws and regulations in Australia. You will have exceptional Stakeholder Engagement/Management skills. Solid industrial relations experience with social partners (especially unions) is highly regarded. Previous successful experience setting up HR department from scratch will also be highly regarded.
